This is a special report on the International Women’s Day Programme of IMA Kunnamkulam and WIMA Kunnamkulam with honouring of Mrs. Uma Preman and State Launch of Souhrudha Project of WIMA, State Launch of Women’s Health Committee and Branch Launch of Haritha Project of WIMA and Communication Skills Programme of IMA Kunnamkulam held at IMA House, Kanippayyur on Sunday, 08.03.2015.
The International Women’s Day Programme was conducted at IMA House, Kanippayyur by IMA Kunnamkulam and WIMA Kunnamkulam at 9.30 am on Sunday 08.03.2015. In a meeting presided over by Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunnamkulam which started with a Prayer Song by Dr. Jetsy Paul, Dr. R. Padmasini, Chairperson of WIMA Kunnamkulam welcomed all the participants after the Flag Salutation by Dr. Rini Raveendran, Convenor of WIMA, Kunnamkulam. In his Presidential Address, Dr. Koshy George commended the contributions of Mrs. Uma Preman in the fields of Medical Information, Dialysis and Tribal welfare. He also delivered a message from State President Dr. Sreejith N. Kumar.
The Programme was formally inaugurated by Dr. Abraham Varghese, Mid Zone Vice President of IMA KSB by lighting the lamp. In his inaugural Address, he congratulated IMA Kunnamkulam Branch for its various activities and stressed the importance of the two State Launches which were scheduled. He then conducted the State Launch of the Women’s Health Committee of IMA by releasing a CD on prevention of abuse of girls.
Mrs. Mini Paul introduced Mrs. Uma Preman who has been declared as the Vanitha Woman of the Year this morning. The State Chairperson of WIMA Dr. Beena K.V. honoured Mrs. Uma Preman by adorning the Ponnada and presenting a memento in honour of her great services to humanity. Mrs. Uma Preman addressed the gathering and said that an honour from IMA meant more to her than other awards because it meant that the medical profession is recognizing her services towards the sick, underprivileged and needy. WIMA Tresurer Dr. Smitha handed over the provisions gathered from its members to Mrs. Uma Preman to be utilized for the Tribal work in Attapadi.
In her address, Dr. Beena K.V., Chairperson of WIMA KSB stressed the importance of women’s health and prevention of anaemia in women which was the main purpose of the Souhruda Project. She then conducted the State Launch of Souhrudha Project of WIMA by releasing the official logo of the project.
Dr. Ajitha P.N., Immediate Past Chairperson of WIMA and Convenor of Arogyamythri Project of IMA KSB delivered the International Women’s Day Message. She stressed the importance of Women’s Health and Women Empowerment both of which formed the main themes of the programme of the day.
Dr. Nileena Koshy, Professor of Community Medicine, Govt. Medical College, Thrissur delivered a talk on ‘Women Empowerment – Release the Power Within’ as part of the State Launch of the Women’s Health Committee.
During the Prize Distribution Ceremony, the award for best ASHA worker of Kunnamkulam was handed over by Mrs. Uma Preman and the Prizes for the Winners of the Essay Competition conducted by WIMA Kunnamkulam at Bethany St. John’s School were handed over by Dr. Beena Ajith, Mid Zone Vice President of WIMA.
Branch Level Inauguration of Haritha Project of WIMA was done by Dr. Preethi Nair, District Representative of WIMA by handing over saplings to Dr. Geetha Devi, Chairperson of IMACGP, Kunnamkulam.
The Branch Level Inauguration of Communication Skills Programme of IMA Kunnamkulam was done by Dr. Joju Pomson, Chairman of the TB Care Committee of IMA KSB by taking a lecture on Communication Skills focusing on Clinical Practice as well as family and friends.
CMEs were conducted on ‘Reproductive Health and Nutrition in Adolescents’ by Dr. Resmy C.R., Associate Professor of O & G, Medical College Thrissur, ‘Life Skills in Adolescents – A Word of Advice to Parents’ by Dr. Smitha C.A., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Govt. Medical College, Kozhikode and ‘Current Cocepts in Rabies’ by Dr. Rini Raveendran, Assistant Professor of Community Medicine, Govt. Medical College, Thrissur.
Past Chairpersons of WIMA Kunnamkulam Dr. Sara Thomas, Dr. Nileena Koshy, Dr. Geetha Devi and Dr. R. Padmasini were honoured on the occasion.
Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Saju P.K., Secretary of IMA Kunnamkulam.
The meeting was adjourned for lunch at 1.30pm after the National Anthem.
Sale of saplings of vegetables and grow-bags was conducted in association with the Haritha Project. Complimentary Saplings were given by WIMA to all participants. A Saree Sale, Sale of Tupperware and an HDFC Bank Counter added glamour to the function. The emceeing of the programme was done by Dr. Mallika Harikrishnan and Dr. Ambili Unnikrishnan.
