Monthly Report of activities of IMA Kunnamkulam for March 2015.
On March 1st 2015 the Citizens’ Health Empowerment Campaign Kerala (ChecK) scheme was formally inaugurated in IMA Kunnamkulam at a function held at IHDP colony hall , Chirackal. The formal inauguration was done by the President Dr. Koshy George T. by lighting the lamp.
A cancer awareness class and cancer detection camp were conducted following the function. A general awareness class on early detection of breast and cervical cancer was taken by Dr.Geetha Devi, the chair person of CGP , IMA Kunnamkulam.
This was followed by collection of PAP SMEARS from suspected patients by the Gynecologist Dr.Bindu Balan and Dr.Geetha Devi and sent for histopathological examination . Also there was general medical check up camp , in which about 200 patients participated. Dr.Koshy George T, Dr.Asok Varma ,Dr.Ravunni Kutty, Dr.Saju.P.K, Dr.Joshy Thomas and Dr.Annie Babu examined the patients and free medicines were dispensed.
On March 3rd , Executive meeting was conducted at IMA House, Pudussery.
On March 8th , The International Women’s Day Programme of WIMA and IMA Kunnamkulam was held at IMA House, Pudussery as a one day function. The Programme was formally inaugurated by Dr. Abraham Varghese, Mid Zone Vice President of IMA KSB by lighting the lamp. In his inaugural Address, he congratulated IMA Kunnamkulam Branch for its various activities and stressed the importance of the two State Launches which were scheduled. He then conducted the State Launch of the Women’s Health Committee of IMA by releasing a CD on prevention of abuse of girls.
The State Chairperson of WIMA Dr. Beena K.V. honoured social worker Mrs. Uma Preman by adorning the Ponnada and presenting a memento in honour of her great services to humanity. Mrs. Uma Preman addressed the gathering and said that an honour from IMA meant more to her than other awards because it meant that the medical profession is recognizing her services towards the sick, underprivileged and needy. WIMA Tresurer Dr. Smitha handed over the provisions gathered from its members to Mrs. Uma Preman to be utilized for the Tribal work in Attapadi.
In her address, Dr. Beena K.V., Chairperson of WIMA KSB stressed the importance of women’s health and prevention of anaemia in women which was the main purpose of the Souhruda Project. She then conducted the State Launch of Souhrudha Project of WIMA by releasing the official logo of the project.
Dr. Ajitha P.N., Immediate Past Chairperson of WIMA and Convenor of Arogyamythri Project of IMA KSB delivered the International Women’s Day Message. She stressed the importance of Women’s Health and Women Empowerment both of which formed the main themes of the programme of the day.
Dr. Nileena Koshy, Professor of Community Medicine, Govt. Medical College, Thrissur delivered a talk on ‘Women Empowerment – Release the Power Within’ as part of the State Launch of the Women’s Health Committee.
During the Prize Distribution Ceremony, the award for best ASHA worker of Kunnamkulam was handed over by Mrs. Uma Preman and the Prizes for the Winners of the Essay Competition conducted by WIMA Kunnamkulam at Bethany St. John’s School were handed over by Dr. Beena Ajith, Mid Zone Vice President of WIMA.
Branch Level Inauguration of Haritha Project of WIMA was done by Dr. Preethi Nair, District Representative of WIMA by handing over saplings to Dr. Geetha Devi, Chairperson of IMACGP, Kunnamkulam.
The Branch Level Inauguration of Communication Skills Programme of IMA Kunnamkulam was done by Dr. Joju Pomson, Chairman of the TB Care Committee of IMA KSB by taking a lecture on Communication Skills focusing on Clinical Practice as well as family and friends.
CMEs were conducted on ‘Reproductive Health and Nutrition in Adolescents’ by Dr. Resmy C.R., Associate Professor of O & G, Medical College Thrissur, ‘Life Skills in Adolescents – A Word of Advice to Parents’ by Dr. Smitha C.A., Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Govt. Medical College, Kozhikode and ‘Current Concepts in Rabies’ by Dr. Rini Raveendran, Assistant Professor of Community Medicine, Govt. Medical College, Thrissur.
Past Chairpersons of WIMA Kunnamkulam Dr. Sara Thomas, Dr. Nileena Koshy, Dr. Geetha Devi and Dr. R. Padmasini were honoured on the occasion.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Saju P.K., Secretary of IMA Kunnamkulam.83 members attended the meeting with family.
Sale of saplings of vegetables and grow-bags was conducted in association with the Haritha Project. Complimentary Saplings were given by WIMA to all participants.
On March 15th , 5 members from our branch attended Ethics committee TOT Workshop held at IMA HOUSE COCHIN.
On March 17th monthly CME was conducted. The speaker was Dr.Sam.P.Jose, consultant psychiatrist at Elite Mission Hospital Trichur and Asso.Prof. at CIAMS Cochin. He talked on Management of Anxiety disorders.
Then Dr .C.P. Tomy presented IMA AMS X ray quiz. It was a case of subpulmonic effusion and the quiz prize was won by Dr.Rajesh Krishnan.Then IMA CGP Journal club was presented by Dr.Unnikrishnan.T. The topic was Osteoporosis in Men.
On 19th March -The inaugural ceremony of NISS in IMA Kunnamkulam was held at the Govt. Taluq Hospital Conference Hall, Kunnamkulam at 3 pm. At a function organised by IMA Kunnamkulam in association with Govt. Taluq Hospital, Kunnamkulam, NISS was formally inaugurated in Kunnamkulam Municipality by Mr. K.K. Raveendran, DySP of Kunnamkulam. Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunnamkulam presided over the function.
Mr. C. K. Unnikrishnan Master, Chairman of Kunnamkulam Municipality, Mr. Asok Kumar, Joint RTO, Guruvayoor, Adv. C. A. Rajeev, Standing Committee Chairman of Health, Kunnamkulam Municipality, Dr. Taj Paul Panakkal, Superintendent of Govt. Taluq Hospital, Mr. P.I. Jose, General Secretary, Chamber of Commerce, Kunnamkulam and Dr. P.K. Saju, Secretary of Kunnamkulam IMA spoke on the occasion. The meeting was attended by drivers and merchants as well as general public of Kunnamkulam.
After the inaugural function, an awareness class on the harmful effects of detrimental sound was taken by Dr. K.V. Devadas, Otorhinolaryngolist and Past President of IMA Kerala State Branch. All members who attended took a solemn pledge to minimize the sound in public and private as far as possible in order to participate in the ongoing campaign against noise pollution in the Municipality.
On 19th March -The inaugural ceremony of FOPHED in IMA Kunnamkulam was held at the Royal Hospital Conference Hall, Kunnamkulam at 8 pm on 19.03.2015. At a function organised by IMA Kunnamkulam in association with Royal Hospital, Kunnamkulam, FOPHED ( Forum Of Private Hospital Employed Doctors ) was formally inaugurated in IMA Kunnamkulam by Dr. K.V. Devadas, Past President of IMA Kerala State Branch. Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunnamkulam presided over the function.
Dr. Mukesh K.R., District Representative of FOPHED and Dr. P.K. Saju, Secretary of Kunnamkulam IMA spoke on the occasion. The meeting was attended by representatives of all private hospital doctors of Kunnamkulam.
After the inaugural function, a talk on ‘Tax and Tax Saving Methods’ was taken by Dr. Venugopal V., B.Com, FCA, PhD., CA which was widely appreciated by all. It was decided to hold regular meetings of the forum, preferably by turn in all private hospitals and to stand together in issues concerning private hospital doctors.
On 24th March -The World Tuberculosis Day 2015 was observed in IMA Kunnamkulam , with the following programmes:
- NURSES TRAINING PROGRAMME AT ST. JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL, CHOONDAL.
At 9 am on 24.03.2015, a Nurses Training Programme was conducted by IMA in collaboration with IMA AMS, Kunnamkulam Chapter at St. Joseph’s Hospital Choondal regarding Patient Education Modalities for Tuberculosis Control. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunnamkulam. The training programme was conducted by Dr. Reju Royce MD. And was well attended and well appreciated. Special importance was given to health education for patients and relatives regarding precautions to be taken to control and prevent the spread of Tuberculosis. Dr. Saju P.K., Secretary, IMA Kunnamkulam summed up and proposed the Vote of Thanks.
- PUBLIC MEETING AT GOVT. TALUQ HOSPITAL, KUNNAMKULAM.
At. 10.30 am on 24. 03. 2015, a public meeting was organised by IMA in collaboration with IMACGP, Kunnamkulam Chapter at Govt. Taluq Hospital, Kunnamkulam. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunnamkulam. Dr. Taj Paul Panakkal, Superintendent of Govt. Taluq Hospital and Convenor IMACGP Kuannamkulam welcomed the participants. In his Presidential address, Dr. Koshy George stressed the importance of organisations like IMA in successful implementation of National Programmes.
A HEALTH AWARENESS CLASS was taken by Dr. Joshy Thomas MD., Physician, Unity Hospital, regarding the nutritional requirements for Tuberculosis patients. He also stressed the need fo early diagnosis and initiation of therapy which minimises the risk of transmission of the disease.
PROVISION OF PROTEIN SUPPLEMENTS FOR TUBERCULOSIS PATINTS OF GOVT. TALUQ HOSPITAL BY IMA KUNNAMKULAM BRANCH was a special project taken up by IMA Kunnamkulam in connection with World Tuberculosis Day this year. Dr. K.V. Devadas, Past President of IMA Kerala State Brach inaugurated this project by handing over the first month’s supply of protein supplements for patients to the Tb Officer of Govt. Taluq Hospital, Dr. Preethi. In his address, Dr. Devadas stressed the need for public participation in Tuberculosis Control and the importance of Nutrition in enhancing of immunity which was essential in the control of the disease.
On 25th March : Executive meeting was conducted in association with AMSCON organising committee to discuss further matters regarding the AMSCON conference. And it was decided to intensify the campaign for registration of delegates.
On 27th March – The inaugural function of the annual ACTS ( Accident Care and Trauma Services) KECHERY CULTURAL FESTIVAL was conducted at Kechery at the Yousef Ali Kechery Vedi at the Kechery football ground on 27.03.2015 at 6 pm. The festival was officially inaugurated by Shri. P. A. Madhavan, MLA. During the report by Shri Jisson Choondal, Secretary of ACTS, Kechery and the Presidential Address by Shri. Jose Paul T., President, Acts, Kechery special mentions were made regarding the significant contribution of IMA Kunnamkulam in the mass registration of 50 life members in a campaign for ACTS, Kechery.
A special award was presented to IMA Kunnamkulam in recognition of the social commitment of the IMA Kunnamkulam Branch and the award was received by Dr. Koshy George T., President, IMA Kunnamkulam for IMA from Shri. C.C. Srikumar, President of the Jilla Panchayat.
During his address, Dr. Koshy George stressed the significance of the Golden Hour and Triage in the management of mass casualty victims.
Mr. K. K. Raveendran, DySP, Kunnamkulam, Mrs. Seffiya Ibrahim, President, Choondal Panchayat, Shri. K.P. Ramesh, Opposition Leader, Choondal Panchayat, Shri. M.K. Varghese, Councillor, Kunnamkulam Municipality and Shri. P. Madhavan, Organising Chairman of ACTS were among the main speakers.
On March 29th , the monthly free medical camp and blood sugar detection camp were conducted at IMA HOUSE .Dr. Mohamed Nissar examined the patients . 61 patients attended the camp and free medicines were dispensed.
On 31st March – We observed the World Measles Immunisation Day in a meeting presided over by the President Dr.Koshy George, a class was taken on Measles and cold chain in vaccine storage , for the nursing students and staff ,at Ansar Hospital , Perumpilavu . Dr.Raveeendran , Consultant Pediatrician at Ansar Hospital, took the class and Deputy Director of Ansar Hospital Mr.Shaheed P.A and IMA Secretary Dr.Saju.P.K spoke on the occasion.
On 31st March – The inauguration of the district level program “ The Family Heart Care Program – phase 1 “ was conducted at IMA House Kunnamkulam at a combined meeting organised by WIMA and IMA Kunnamkulam in association with DTF, Thrissur. The meeting was inaugurated by DTF chairman Dr.Jain Chimmen . In his address he thanked IMA Kunnamkulam for taking up the heart care program of Trichur DTF and conveyed best wishes for the program.
Dr.Santhosh Babu ,the DTF Convenor explained the importance of the program.The meeting was presided over by Dr.Koshy George .T, President of IMA Kunnamkulam and the scientific session was chaired by senior physician Dr .N D .Varghese. Dr.C.K.Prasannakumar , the chief interventional Cardiologist of Jubilee Mission Medical College took a class on Acute coronary Syndrome(ACS) in a simple and lucid manner, so as to explain the basics of ACS to the spouses of IMA members and what to do if an emergency situation occurs at home. It was a well attended meeting. 66 members attended with their spouses and there was an active interactive session following the CME.
