CONSOLIDATED QUARTERLY REPORT OF IMA KUNNAMKULAM

The meeting was presided by Dr. Koshy George T.,  the president of IMA Kunnamkulam . In his presidential   address , he outlined the various programmes for the evening and he welcomed the chief guest Dr. Jain Chimmen , the chairman of DTF Thrissur. He thanked the members who had given their consent to join ACTS Kechery unit as an outreach programme of IMA Kunnamkulam which was envisaged early in the tenure of the present IMA year. The programme comprised four parts:

In the first function, Dr. Jain Chimmen inaugurated the IMA programme for Differently Abled in Kunnamkulam by honouring senior member Dr. K. Jacob Roy who has been awarded a Fellowship by the Child Disability Chapter of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics.In his acceptance speech, Dr. Jacob Roy stressed the need for screening of children for childhood disability and early intervention.

In the second function organised by the WIMA Kunnamkulam, Dr. Jain Chimmen released the official newsletter of WIMA, ‘INNER VOICE’, receiving a copy from the editor Mrs. Lilly Roy.

In the third function organised by the IMA AMS Chapter of Kunnamkulam, Dr. Jain Chimmen released the brochure of AMSCON 2015, the mid zone conference of AMS scheduled to be held in Kunnamkulam on 3^rd May, 2015.

In the fourth function, Dr. Jain Chimmen inaugurated the Act Force of IMA Kunnamkulam and the Life Support and Training programme by handing over the application forms for life membership of ACTS (accident care and transport service), Kechery of 50 IMA members along with a cheque for Rs. 51500/- to Mr. Jose Paul T., the president of ACTS.  In his speech, the president Dr. Koshy George promised  basic life support training classes by IMA Kunnamkulam to the members of ACTS Unit ,  in the coming months . ACTS Trichur District Secretary, Mr. Jisson Choondal mentioned in his acceptance speech that this was the biggest among all membership drives taken up by organisations for ACTS Kechery so far.

In his inaugural address Dr. Jain Chimmen detailed the importance of both the programmes and expressed all the best wishes to the programmes  and requested the office bearers  of IMA Kunnamkulam to keep up the same momentum throughout the year .

Dr. K V Devadas , Past president of IMA KSB congragulated IMA Kunnamkulam for implementing various streams of state IMA . WIMA Chairperson Dr. R. Padmasini, WIMA Secretary Dr. Rini Raveendran, IMA AMS Chairman Dr. Shaji P.S., AMSCON 2015 Organising Secretary Dr. Rajesh Krishnan,  IMA Kunnamkulam secretary , Dr. Saju P K , Treasurer Dr. Shameer C Sulaiman also spoke on the occasion.

The inauguration of the Arogya Jalakam project in Kunnamkulam Municipality was conducted at the Municipal Conference Hall, Municipal Office, Kunnamkulam on 2.2.15 at 3 pm . The meeting was presided by Dr. Koshy George T , President of IMA Kunnamkulam. In his presidential address , Dr. Koshy George requested good co-operation of the Chairman and all the Councillors, for the successful implementation of various health projects, for which IMA is launching this new venture to bring information and resources to the representatives of the people who will transfer it to the public they represent. Dr. P K. Mohammed Rasheed , State Chairman of Arogya Jalakam of IMA KSB delivered the Key Note Address in which he detailed about the objectives of Arogya Jalakam and he mentioned that IMA is standing for the profession and for the people. Dr. Rasheed explained the various ways in which the Councillors can make use of Arogya Jalakam for their respective wards. A leaflet about the purpose of Arogya Jalakam was distributed among the councillors.

The formal inauguration of Arogya Jalakam in Kunnamkulam Municipality was then done by the Hon. Chairman of Kunnamkulam Municipality Shri. C K Unnikrishnan Master . He extended all the best wishes for the project and promised all the help and cooperation from the Municipality.

31 out of the 37 Councillors as well as many past presidents and senior members of IMA Kunnamkulam attended the meeting. Past President of IMA KSB Dr. K.V. Devadas proposed the vote of thanks, and he stressed the need for people’s representatives to take an active role in ensuring that the benefit of various health programmes reaches their people.

Jan 1^st – The new year started with a protest meeting  at Taluq hospital , Kunnamkulam following a hospital attack there in which a security guard was injured and the duty nurse was locked up while miscreants rampaged the ward at night.  A team of the IMA, led by the Kunnamkulam IMA President Dr.Koshy George T., Secretary Dr.Saju.P.K, Senior Vice president Dr Paul C Raphel, IMAKSB Past President Dr.K.V.Devadas, SSSS Board of Trustees member Dr.O.J.John reached the Taluq Hospital  and organised a  protest meeting  involving all the staff of Taluq Hospital also and a protest march was held demanding  arrest of the culprits under the Hospital Protection Act.

Jan 4^th– A medical camp was conducted at Chirackal, Pazhanji, Kunnamkulam . The camp was inaugurated by Mr. T.V. Chandramohanan, Chairman of Guruvayoor Dewaswam Board and Ex-MLA of Kunnamkulam. Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunnamkulam presided over the public meeting before the camp. Mr. Abdul Gafoor, President of Pain and Palliative Unit of Kunnamkulam spoke on the occasion and he thanked the President Dr. Koshy George for his visit to the Kudumbasangamom of Pain and Palliative patients on December 4th which was a big boost to them.

Jan 9^th– Executive Committee meeting was held at IMA House, Kanippayyur.

Jan 9^th -The inaugural function of the Certificate course in Geriatric Care for Bedside Assistance/ Caretaker organised by the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India in association with Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI) and Indian Medical Association, Kunnamkulam  was conducted at the Malankara Medical Mission Hospital, Aduppootty, Kunnamkulam. The formal inauguration of the course was done  by Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunnamkulam . Mr. Mathew I. Chemmannoor, Secretary of Malankara Medical Mission Hospital presided over the function. Dr. K. Jacob Roy, Director of ARDSI, Mrs. Chandralekha, CDO, ICDS and Major K.P. Gopalakrishnan, National Coordinator, ARDSI spoke on the occasion.

Jan 11^th –  A Medical camp was organised by IMA Kunnamkulam in association with Taluq Hospital, Kunnamkulam in connection with the 125^th Jubilee celebrations of Taluq Hospital, Kunnamkulam at Kurukkanpara. Dr. Cherian Joseph, founder president of IMA Kunnamkulam outlined the objectives of the camp in the public meeting before the camp

Jan 11^th – 4 members of our branch including the president and secretary attended a workshop on IMA projects and programmes as well as Mid Zone Planning Meeting conducted at Ashoka Inn Trichur.

Jan 13^th – Extra ordinary executive meeting was summoned by the President to discuss the initiation of programmes outlined in the mid zone planning meeting held at Thrissur on Jan 11^th. It was decided that IMA Kunnamkulam would inaugurate Arogyamaithri programmes, GRF, CAP, Sports Club, Arogyajalakom and Act Force within the next one month..

Jan 16^th -The formal inauguration of the interventional health programmes of IMA Kunnamkulam at the adopted school , Emmanuel LP school , Chittanjoor was held  at the school. The President Dr. Koshy George formally inaugurated the interventional health programmes in a simple function attended by the staff and students of the school. After the inaugural function, we conducted our first interventional program – a health education class on “Personal hygiene and tips for improving scholastic performance” by the Women’s Wing of IMA Kunnamkulam. The class was taken by Dr.Rema Mukesh. This was followed by an interactive session on ‘Improving Scholastic Skills’ moderated by the President Dr. Koshy George T., and Women’s Wing Coordinator Mrs. Mini Paul.

 Jan 18^th –The Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme at Kunnamkulam town was inaugurated by the Municipal Chairman Shri C.K. Unnikrishnan Master at a public function held at the Government Taluq Hospital, Kunnamkulam . Kunnamkulam IMA President, Dr. Koshy George T., BFHI and Child Health Wing Chairman of IMA Kunnamkulam Dr. Kuruvilla John, Kunnamkulam Rotary Club president Dr. Rajesh P and  Taluq Hospital Superintendent Dr. Taj Paul Panakkal spoke on the occasion. The President Dr. Koshy George T. inaugurated the Pulse polio booth set up by the IMA Kunnamkulam Branch in the Municipal Bus Stand, Kunnamkulam.

Jan 18^th – The formal inauguration of the interventional health programmes of IMA Kunnamkulam at the adopted village Thipilisseri was held on 18^th January, 2015 at the community hall of the village. The program was inaugurated by Shri Babu M. Palisseri, MLA of Kunnamkulam. The President Dr. Koshy George T. presided over the function and delivered the presidential address after a welcome speech by the village representative Mr. Premadasan.

Our First Interventional Health Programme – detection of thyroid dysfunction, conducted by the IMA AMS Chapter of Kunnamkulam was inaugurated  by Dr. Hareendhranathan A.M, District representative of Arogya mythri project of IMA KSB in Thrissur District, in the presence of Dr. C.P. Tomy branch representative of IMA AMS Chapter. He explained the aims of  Arogya mythri project and wished all success to the programme . Blood samples for TSH were taken and done free of cost and appropriate treatment was initiated later.

Our Second Interventional Health Programme – detection of anaemia, conducted by the Womens’ Wing of IMA Kunnamkulam was inaugurated by the ward member Mr. K Vishwambharan, in the presence of Dr. R. Padmasini, Chairperson of the Womens’ Wing. We tested Hb levels for 75 people and those who were found anaemic, free medicines were issued.

Our third programme was release of a leaflet on thyroid dysfunction prepared by IMA AMS for Women’s Wing of IMA Kunnamkulam. Dr.R Padmasini , the president of Women’s Wing of IMA Kunnamkulam released the leaflet by handing over a copy to the village representative Mr. Premdas.

Jan 19^th  –  The new Generator Set was installed in IMA House, Kanippayyur as the first step in the process of the airconditioning of the hall.

Jan 19^th  –  The President Dr. Koshy George T., attended the Preliminary Celebrations of Run Kerala Run  held at Kunnamkulam Central Junction where the leaders of 35 socio-political organisations were invited for cake cutting and ‘ Dove Release’.

Jan 20^th  – IMA Kunnamkulam took part in Run Kerala Run programme in association with Tropical Health Foundation of India  (THFI) , YMCA Kunnamkulam , Accident Care Transport Service (ACTS unit) Kechery, Local hospitals and a few local people near to IMA house . Approximately 150 people participated in the run .

Jan 20^th – The first CME of the month was conducted at IMA House, Kanippayyur. .Prof.N.Asokan, Associate Professor of Dermatology , GMC Trichur ,was the speaker and he spoke on “Before you Prescribe Topical Steroids”.

Jan 20^th -The formal inauguration of the Grievance Redressal Forum of IMA KUNNAMKULAM was conducted at IMA House, Kanippayyur.. The function was presided over by Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunnamkulam who announced themembers of the forum:

1. The President of IMA   Kunnamkulam, Dr.Koshy George .T
2.      Dr.N.D.Varghese,Past president &Chairman Ethics committee of IMA Kunnamkulam
3.   Dr.K.V.Devadas,Past president IMA KSB-as the  Nodal person.
4.  The Secretary of IMA  Kunnamkulam, Dr.Saju.P.K.
5.   Mr.V.K.Sreeraman , Cine Actor and social activist of Kunnamkulam.

The forum was officially inaugurated by Dr.P.Gopikumar, Midzone Joint Secretary of IMA KSB and Coordinator of Medical Practice Stream of IMA KSB.. In his Inaugural Address, he congratulated IMA Kunnamkulam for being the first branch in Kerala to form a GRF and requested the IMA Kunnamkulam team to continue such activities and fulfil the dream of our state president “for the profession and for the people”, by implementing activities of various streams of IMA KSB.

Then Mr V.K.Sreeraman thanked IMA Kunnamkulam for inviting him to such an important and serious forum that deals with various  medico-ethical problems of laymen. He wished all success to the forum and extended all the help he could do for the betterment of doctor-patient relationship.

Jan 21^st – A class on Orthopaedic Problems in Geriatric Age Group was taken by Dr. Koshy George T. for the students of the certificate course in Geriatric Care at Malankara Hospital, Kunnamkulam.

Jan 22^nd – Electrical installation for airconditioning of IMA House was commenced.

Jan 25^th – The formal  inauguration of the SPORTS CLUB  of IMA Kunnamkulam  was done by our president Dr.Koshy George .T., followed by a shuttle badminton tournament at Lion’s Community Hall Kunnamkulam.10 members of IMA Kunnamkulam participated in the tournament . Dr Asok Varma  and Dr.Joshy Thomas were the overall winners of  the tournament.

Jan 25^th – The monthly free  medial camp was conducted at IMA Hall, Kanippayyur.

Jan 25^th – The first Planning Meeting for IMA AMS Mid Zone Conference was held at the President’s residence. 10 members attended the meeting.

Jan 26^th –Flag hoisting was done at IMA Hall at 8.30 am.

Jan 26^th –  The President Dr. Koshy George T.. inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp at YMCA Kanippayyur held in association with Amala Hospital.

Jan 28^th – 2^nd CME of the month. The speaker was Prof.Muraleedharan,  Professor of Endocrinology ,AIMS Kochi. He spoke on “Diabetes and DPP4 inhibitors”.

Jan 28^th – the CITIZENS’ ADVISORY PANEL  of IMA Kunnamkulam was formally inaugurated by Dr.K.V.Devadas , Past president of IMA KSB.

Dr.Koshy George, President of IMA Kunnamkulam presided over the meeting. In his Presidential Address, he announced the formation of the CAP with following people as its members:

1.Mr .Babu M. Palissery, MLA of  Kunnamkulam.

2.Mr. C.K. Unnikrishnan Master, Chairman of  Kunnamkulam Municipality .

3.Mr.K.K.Raveendran, DySP of  Kunnamkulam.

4. Mr.E.Ragunandanan, General Secretary , Haemophilia society of India and BJP state council member.

Dr.John Sebastian Nivin , the district representative of CAP explained about the objectives of forming a CAP and conveyed the appreciation and wishes of Dr. K. Mohanan, Chairman of CAP who could not be present at the meeting.

In his Inaugural Address, Dr.K.V.Devadas ,  congratulated the branch for the promptness with which the branch has responded to the projects put forward by the State IMA leadership.In their acceptance Speeches, all the members of CAP greatly appreciated the idea and expressed their  willingness to cooperate with IMA Kunnamkulam in their advisory capacity.

Jan 29^th  – A Training Programme for Hospital Consultants on Medicolegal Issues was conducted by IMA Kunnamkulam at Royal Hospital, Kunnamkulam. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunnamkulam. In his inaugural address, he stressed the need for proper documentation and medical audit in hospitals. The speaker Dr. Jain Chimmen, Chairman of District Task Force of Thrissur was introduced by Dr. Rajagopalan K.  Dr. Jain Chimmen gave a detailed lecture on medicolegal issues with examples of several cases which were dealt with in consumer courts and Lok Adalaths. He stressed the importace of documentation, recording of referrals, informed consent and procedures to be followed if a notice is received;

Jan 30^th – The President Dr. Koshy George T. had discussions with the Municipal Chairman and senior Councillors regarding Arogyajalakom and it was decided to have the formal inauguration of the project on 2^nd February at the Municipal Conference Hall.
