The IMA Year 2014-15 started with the installation of Dr. Koshy George T. as the President of IMA Kunnamkulam Branch with his team of office bearers on 3rd October 2014 at a family meeting of the branch held at the IMA Hall, Kunnamkulam. Dr. K.V. Devadas, Past President of IMA Kerala State was the Installing Officer.
On 4th October, in compliance with a directive from the State Secretary, a memorandum was sent on behalf of IMA Kunnamkulam to Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare asking for the setting up of an effective mechanism for the control of drug prices and for ensuring the quality of drugs.
On 5th October, the President convened a Core Committee meeting to chart out the plan of activities for October 2014.
On 7th October, the first meeting of the Executive Committee was held at IMA Hall and it was decided to revive the IMA Kunnamkulam website ‘www.imakunnamkulam.org’ and the IMA Kunnamkulam Womens’ Wing as well as the IMA Kunnamkulam Newsletter ‘Pulse’ with Dr. Harikrishnan K.B as editor. The news letter was sent to DTF coordinator Dr. Jain Chimmen, State Secretary Dr.A.V.Jayakrishnan and to IMA headquarters Thiruvananthapuram after the official release on 21st October.
On 10th October, in connection with the World Mental Health Day 2014, IMA Kunnamkulam Branch conducted a symposium on mental health awareness at Ansar Hospital, Perumpilavu. Psychologist Prof .E. Mohamed, Psychiatrist Dr.Said Mohamed and IMA president Dr.Koshy George.T and Secretary Dr. P. K. Saju took part.
A health education class was also taken on 10th October for patients and relatives on ‘Psychosomatic Disorders’ by Dr. Sameer Babu, Physician of Ansar Hospital. This event was reported in the Madhyamam daily on 12th October.
On 16th October, In connection with the World Food Day 2014, IMA Kunnamkulam Branch conducted distribution of lunch packets to the patients of Government Taluk Hospital,Kunnamkulam. Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunnamkulam branch presided over the function. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. K.V. Devadas, Past President of IMA Kerala State Branch. The superintendent of Taluk Hospital Dr. Taj Paul, Senior Vice President of IMA Kunnamkulam Dr. Paul C. Raphael, Secretary Dr. P.K. Saju and Treasurer Dr. Shameer C. Sulaiman offered felicitations. This event was reported with photograph in the Mathrubhumi daily of 17th October and the news item appeared in the Malayala Manorama daily of 19th October. The event was also covered by the TV News channels CCTV and TCV on 16th October.
On 19th October the President convened a Planning committee meeting of the IMA Hall Premises Maintenance Committee to discuss the plans for activities of cleaning the IMA Hall premises in accordance with the Swach Bharath Abhiyan.
On 21st October a Continuing Medical Education Programme was organized at the IMA Hall, Kunnamkulam with Dr. K. Mohanan, Professor and Head, Dept. of Radiodiagnosis, MCH Thrissur as faculty, the topic being Chest Xray. 76 members attended the meeting .An X ray quiz was conducted by Dr.Tomy. The Chief Guest Prof.K.Mohanan released the first volume of this year’s news letter ‘Pulse” by handing over a copy to Dr.K. V. Devadas, Past President of IMA Kerala State.
On 26thOctober, the first monthly free medical camp of IMA Kunnamkulam for this year was held at the IMA Hall, Kunnamkulam. Dr.P.A. Mohamed Nissar, Dr.Shameer C Sulaiman, Dr. P.K.Saju and Dr. Koshy George T. led the camp. 68 patients were examined and were given free medicines.
On 26th October, the President convened Planning committee meetings of the Pulse Editorial Board, the Website Committee, the Cultural Wing and the Womens’ Wing to discuss the action plan for the year.
On 31st October the President and Secretary of IMA Kunnamkulam who have been co-opted into the Executive Committee of the 125th Jubilee celebrations of Taluk Hospital, Kunnamkulam attended the planning meeting of the committee prior to the inaugural ceremony to be held on 6th November.
During the month, various maintenance works including electrical work and interior decoration work were undertaken to give a face-lift for the IMA Hall, Kunnamkulam.

On the 4th of November, there was an executive committee meeting to discuss the activities for the month.
On the 7th of November, 18 members of our branch went to Kovalam to attend the IMA State conference held at Trivandrum. Dr.K.V Devadas was elected as CWC member,Dr.Cherian joseph was elected as alternate CWC member and Dr.O.J John as Member board of trustees of Senior Social Security Scheme.
On the 13th of November, a press conference was called by the IMA at the Kunnamkulam Press Club to announce the programmes for the World Diabetes Day which included blood sugar detection camps.
On the 14th of November, on the world diabetes day, a public meeting was conducted at the South Zone Diabetic Centre, Kunnamkulam. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunamkulam and the inauguration of the World Diabetes Day Programme was doneby Shri C.K. Unnikrishnan, Municipal Chairman of Kunnamkulam. Dr. K.V. Devadas, Past President of IMA Kerala State delivered the Key Note Address. Dr. O.J. John and Dr. Cherian Joseph, State Office Bearers of the IMA offered felicitations. Dr. P.K.Saju, Secretary of IMA Kunnamkulam proposed the vote of thanks.
Following the public meeting, a health education class was taken by Dr.Shameer C. Sulaiman , diabetologist for the general public. Blood Sugar Detection Camps were conducted in 4 sites in the suburbs of Kunnamkulam and more than 2000 patients were screened. At 2.30pm, there was a ‘walk for diabetes’ led by the doctors of IMA , which was flagged off by Dr. Koshy George T., President of IMA Kunnamkulam. Nearly 300 student volunteers from nearby schools from nearby schools took part along with their school bands.
On the 18th of November, a CME was conducted on Tuberculosis , in association with RNTCP trichur unit at IMA House, Kunnamkulam. Dr.Anoop, district TB officer,Ernakulam and Dr.Babu Varghese, Consultant in Respiratory Medicine,RNTCP Trichur, spoke on the current status of the TB epidemic. 56 members attended the meeting.
The IMA AMS X-ray quiz was conducted by Dr.C.P. Tomy and the radiological features of right middle lobe syndrome were discussed. The monthly case presentation session by IMACGP was inaugurated by the President Dr, Koshy George T. by presenting a case himself. It was a case of traumatic digital neuroma which presented with longstanding pain without clinicoradiological findings . The new website of IMA Kunnamkulam www.imakunnamkulam.in was formally commissioned by Dr. O.J. John, Past President of IMA Kunnamkulam. Prizes for the x-ray quiz and spot the personality contest in the Newsletter of October were received by Dr. Peethambaran K.B. and Dr. P.K. Saju respectively.
On the 21st of November, we conducted an emergency protest meeting at 8:30 PM at IMA hall to protest against the delay in action being taklen by the authorities regarding a hospital attack at Ansar Hospital, Perumpilavu on 12.11.14. The committee decided to condemn the hospital attack and passed a resolution for the speedy action to book the culprits under the Hospital Protection Act. The copy of resolution was sent to the DYSP of Police, Kunnamkulam, CI and SI of Police, Kunnamkulam, the IMA State Secretary Dr.A.V Jayakrishan as well as to the Director of Ansar Hospital, Perumpilavu. A copy of the resolution was also released to the press which was reported in the Malayala Manorama daily on 23rd of November.
On the 22nd of November, the Womens’ Wing of IMA Kunnamkulam conducted a health education class at the Good Shepherd Hall ,Chowannur, for the housewives of Adupootty colony. Dr.Rini Raveendran took a class on life style diseases.
On the 21st of November, a free medical check up camp was held at Mary Matha Boy’s Cottage at Anakallu. Kunnamkulam. The MLA of Kunnamkulam Sri.Babu M Palisseri inaugurated the camp. Dr. Paul C. Raphael, Dr. Mohammed Nissar P.A., Dr. C.P. Ravunnikkutty, Dr. Sameer Babu, Dr. Saju P.K. and Dr Faslu Rehman N.K. participated. 49 inmates of the cottage were examined, Health Cards were issued and free medicines were given. This was followed by a Sunday Lunch for the inmates sponsored by IMA Kunnamkulam. The president Dr, Koshy Gorge T. handed over the amount collected as donation to Mr Saji, the manager.
On 30th of November, the monthly free medical camp was conducted at IMA House, Kunnamkulam . Dr.Shaji.P.S and Dr.Saju.P.K examined 75 patients who were given free medicines .
On 30th of November, a cleaning drive of the IMA HOUSE and its premises as a part of SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN was organised . President Dr.Koshy George and Secretary Dr.Saju.P.K, led the cleaning campaign.
