The 2nd Executive committee Meeting was held at IMA House, Kanippayyur on November 1st. A detailed discussion about the attendance and arrangements of the upcoming state conference and the state council meeting as well as other important matters like communications from the State, Health Scheme amendment for malignancies, matters regarding the IMA House maintainance and building tax were considered. It was decided to start a facebook page for the branch.
November 2nd
The Life Support and Training Committee of IMA Kunnamkulam conducted a Special Training Program for the Mustafa Memorial Swathantra Drivers Association, Andathode, on 2nd November, 2016 as a part of a Road Traffic Awareness Program and 24 hour Road Safety Pamphlet Distribution Campaign. Mr. P Viswambharan, Kunnamkulam DYSP inaugurated the function and honoured selected drivers for safe driving. Dr. Ajith T conducted a First Aid Class and BLS workshop for the drivers. Dr. Rajesh Krishnan, Chairman of IMAKunnamkulam Literary Club conducted an Awareness Talk on ‘The importance of Literary Material and Media in Road Safety ‘.
This was followed by a Seminar on Road Safety. Mr. A D Dhaneep, Punnayurkulampanchayath president, Mr. K M Abdu ,Road accident action forum state president, Mr. S R Shaji, Joint RTO Guruvayoor, Mr. Mohith P K ,SI Vadakkekad, Mr. K G Suresh, CI Chavakkad, Mr. K R Suresh, MVI Ponnani, Dr. Ajith T and Dr. Rajesh Krishnan participated in the seminar.

November 4th
IMA Kunnamkulam conducted 2 programs under Dealing with Diabetes Project on 4thNovember .
The first program was under the NDEP course for Paramedics. The second module of NDEP 2016-17 was conducted by the course trainer Dr. Shameer C Sulaiman. The module was on Basics of Diabetes and 12 students attended.
The second program was the Free Friday Diabetic Clinic conducted at SHRC by IMA Kunnamkulam. Secretary Dr. Shameer C Sulaiman examined the patients. 15 patients attended today’s clinic. Free Blood Sugar estimation was done.
November 6th
As part of the Cataract Camp Series, IMA Kunnamkulam conducted a cataract detection camp in collaboration with KunnamkulamMunicipality and SHRC at Aduppootty. Dr. Lakshmi examined the patients. This is part of an ONGOING CATARACT DETECTION PROJECT OF IMA KUNNAMKULAM started in association with Kunnamkulam Municipality being conducted serially in all wards of the municipality this year. Out of the 73 patients who were examined in the camp, 4 deserving patients will have free surgery done for them.
November 6th
IMA Kunnamkulam in association with St. De Paul club Chemmannur and Malabar Eye Hospital conducted a Medical Camp and Ophthalmic Evaluation Camp at St Sebastian’s Church,Chemmannur. Municipal chairperson inaugarated the camps. Dr. Shaji P S conducted a Health Education Class about Life Style Diseases and treatment. Municipal councillor O V Bhaji expressed vote of thanks. 45 patients were examined.
November 10th
IMA Kunnamkulam inaugurated the ‘NallaKaumaram-NallaPauratwam’ project for the year at a function held at TMHS Perumpilav on 10. 11. 2016. As announced as part of KERALAPPIRAVI celebration, the Literary Club of IMA Kunnamkulam in association with SHRC, Kunnamkulam donated one year newspaper subscription to TMHS, Perumpilav. This is to promote the reading habit as well as general knowledge and contemporary awareness in school children. The project was inaugurated by Dr. Shameer C Sulaiman, secretary of IMA Kunnamkulam. Dr. Shameer stressed the need for informed citizenship and the role of newspaper reading habit in this. On behalf of the Literary Club of IMA Kunnamkulam, he handed over the first copy of the newspaper to the school captain. The school principal Mrs. Leeza Mathew presided over the function. November 11th -13th
The Annual State Conference of IMA KSB – ‘PeriyarMedfest’ at CIAL Nedumbassery was attended by 20 members from the branch. IMA Kunnamkulam received a total of 10 awards of IMA KSB, in various categories. DR PAREED PILLAI MEMORIAL SHIELD for the second best IMA branch in the state, The best WIMA branch award, Dr N.K.THOMAS VAIDYAN AWARD for the Best local branch president to Dr. C. P. Ravunnikutty, President appreciation awards to Dr. Koshy George, Dr. Saju P.K, Dr. Ninan Kuthoor, Dr. Rini Raveendran, Dr. Unnikrishnan T. and two appreciation awards for IMA AMS chapter.
WORLD DIABETES DAY PROGRAMS
IMA and WIMA Kunnamkulam conducted some well participated programs on the 14th of November in connection with World Diabetes Day. The media were briefed prior to the date of the programs and the resultant coverage in the newspapers as well as TV channels was excellent. A brief report of the activities in connection with these programs is given below.
PRESS CONFERENCE
November 11th
On the 11th of November, IMA Kunnamkulam conducted a press meet at Kunnamkulam Press Club. Dr. Joshy Thomas, President and Dr. Shameer C. Sulaiman met the representatives of printed and visual media and explained in detail the various programs planned in connection with the World Diabetes Day as well as the aims and modus operandi of the proposed All India Satyegraha of IMA against the NMC bill.
November 14th
WORLD DIABETES DAY PROGRAM AT SHRC KUNNAMKULAM
The program started with a prayer at 10 am. Municipal Ward Councilor Mrs. Mini Moncy presided over the function. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Joshy Thomas K, president of IMA Kunnamkulam. Felicitations were given by Mr. Yesudas and Mr. Ummer.
Dr. Shameer C Sulaiman took a health education class on WDD THEME – EYES FOR DIABETES
A health publication PRAMEHA PRABODHINI was released specially for the occasion by IMA Kunnamkulam and was formally released for the public by the president Dr. Joshy Thomas.
In connection with CHILDREN’S DAY, a special program was arranged for Type I Diabetic Children in the form of FORMATION OF A DIABETIC CLUB with 9 children and families as members. They had an experience sharing session.

WORLD DIABETES DAY PROGRAMS IN KUNNAMKULAM TOWN
MEDICAL CAMPS
3 DIABETIC SCREENING BLOOD SUGAR CAMPS were conducted in 3 places in various parts of Kunnamkulam town by IMA Kunnamkulam. 1356 people tested positive for diabetes in these camps.
GLOBAL DIABETES WALK
At 3 pm. the GLOBAL DIABETIC WALK was conducted by IMA Kunnamkulam with the participation of various hospitals and schools of Kunnamkulam and WIMA Kunnamkulam. The Walk was flagged off by the Municipal Chairperson Mrs. SeethaRavindran. Around 200 people participated.
WDD PROGRAM AT GOVERNMENT BOY’S HS KUNNAMKULAM.
A Program was arranged by IMA Kunnamkulam at Government Boys High School on 14th November, 2016. The principal of the school Mrs. AshaLatha presided over the function. The program was formally inaugurated by the Immediate Past President of IMA Kunnamkulam Dr. C. P. Ravunnikutty. Staff and student representatives spoke on the occasion.
The function was followed by a Health Education Class on Lifestyle Diseases by Dr. C. P. Ravunnikutty.
After the class, Dr. Ravunnikutty flagged off the Walk for Diabetes in which the students and staff of the school participated.

November 15th
2nd General Body Meeting and 2nd CME on 15thNovember, 2016
President welcomed all members to the meeting. A special welcome note was given to the speaker Dr. P. Sundaresh Kumar, consultant general surgeon, Unity Hospital Kunnamkulam. Dr Ashok Varma introduced the speaker and Dr. P. Sundaresh Kumar gave an excellent talk on Lincosamide, after which the topic was well discussed and appreciated. Dr. Reji presented memento to the guest speaker.
Xray Quiz by IMA AMS was presented by Dr.Akhil . Prizes were won by Dr Mohammed Nisar, Dr Ashok Varma & Dr Rajesh Krishnan.
IMA past State president Dr Devadas discussed the NMC Bill. He requested maximum members from the branch to attend the sathyagraha against National Medical Commission Bill on 16thNovember from 11am to 1pm near Collectorate, Thrissur. Then President requested all members to attend the sathyagraha and explained the details of conveyance .
Later President detailed about the recently conducted Annual State conference Periyar Medfest at CIAL, Nedumbassery, where 20 members attended and announced the award winners of IMA Kunnamkulam.
RECEPTION TO STATE AWARD WINNERS
A warm reception was given to the state award winners of Kunnamkulam IMA. This programme was emceed by past president Dr. Koshy George. In his address he congratulated all the winners especially Dr.Ravunnikutty and Dr.Geethadevi for bringing the Dr. Pareed Pillai Award for the 2nd best local branch & the Dr N K Thomas Vaidyan award for best president again and WIMA best branch award for the first time in the history of WIMA Kunnamkulam. Then the previous Pareed Pillai Shield winners of our branch history honoured the present award winners on behalf of the branch – Dr. Thambi Vargese presented a memento to Dr. Ravunnikutty, Dr. Devadas presented a memento to Dr. Shaji and Dr. N D Vargese presented a memento to Dr. Shameer C Sulaiman. For WIMA, Dr. Sarah Thomas, the charter chairperson presented a memento to Dr. Padmasini and Dr. Nileena Koshy, charter secretary presented a memento to Dr. Geetha Devi . Dr. Ravunnikutty in his acceptance speech expressed his gratitiude and Dr. Shaji and Dr. Geetha thanked the members for their cooperation. IMA Kunnamkulam received a total of 10 awards of IMA KSB, invarious categories. November 16TH
A rally against Drug Abuse as part of Bodhapournami program was organised by IMA Kunnamkulam in association with Kerala Kaumudi and Janamaithri Police on 16th November 2016. IPP of IMA Kunnamkulam Dr. C.P. Ravunnikutty flagged off the rally. WIMA members Dr.Geetha Devi and BencyJoshy participated in the function. NSS students of Govt Boys High School accompanied the rally. Municipal Chairperson Mrs.SeethaRaveendran inaugurated the meeting. There was an Awareness class on Drug Abuse conducted by IMA Kunnamkulam for the students also.
November 16th
IMA stop NMC Bill Sathyagraha near Colloctrate, Thrissur.

November 20th
As part of IMA Kunnamkulam’s project of “Fight against Ischeamic Heart Disease” a Cardiac disease detection camp was conducted by IMA Kunnamkulam in association with Unity Heart Care at the adpted village for Arogya Mythri – Karikad near Pazhanji. Around 100 patients were examined and free ECG, Cholesterol , Blood sugar evaluations were done for needy patients. Dr.Akhil P C cardiologist, Dr.Joshy Thomas Physician, Dr.Varghese Job, director Unity Health Services & Dr.Akhila examined patients from 9 AM to 1 PM.
November 20th
As part of “World Diabetic Week observation”, IMA Kunnamkulam along with WIMA Kunnamkulam conducted a diabetic detection camp at St.Mary’s church Puthussery. President Dr.Joshy Thomas took a health education class on Diabetes and its Complications. WIMA
Kunnamkulam donated a glucometer to the community service cell of the church which was handed over by Mrs. Usha Varghese Paul & Mrs. Bency Joshy. 52 patients were examined which included 18 diabetic patients. Free medicines were distributed.
November 20th
Elderly Care Free medical camp SnehapoorvamVayojanangalkai was conducted at Pazhanji on Sunday 20th November. Dr.Ravunnikutty and Dr.Geetha Devi examined patients and free medicines were given.
November 21st
DEALING WITH DIABETES PROJECT – PDB PROJECT – JOINT VENTURE OF IMA AND AIOS. In connection with World Diabetes Day programmes, IMA Kunnamkulam conducted one week (November 14 – 21) diabetic detection and retinopathy screening clinic at southzone eye hospital. ( PDB project in association with AIOS).
Dr. Shija Unnikrishnan examined patients. Total patients – 85

FBS >120 group – 18 patients. From this group, 2 patients had diabetic retinopathy
PPBS >150 group- 22 patients. From this group, 6 patients had diabetic retinopathy.
November 25th
Free Friday Diabetic Clinic conducted at SHRC by IMA Kunnamkulam. Secretary Dr. Shameer C Sulaiman examined the patients. 14 patients attended today’s clinic. Free Blood Sugar estimation was done.
November 25th
‘AROGYAMYTHRI‘ monthly camp at adopted village 25 .11.2016. IMA Kunnamkulam in association with Chandanam Charitable Trust, Karikkad conducted free medical camp. Secratary Dr. Shameer C Sulaiman examined the patients. Free medicines were given. 20 patients attended the camp today.
November 27th
As part of IMA Kunnamkulam’s monthly programme for the upliftment of underprivileged communities in the neighbourhood, the free monthly medical camp was conducted on 27th Sunday at IMA house Puthussery in which 65 patients were examined with free blood sugar estimation & distribution of free medicines. Dr. Mohan Thomas, Dr. Reju Royce & Dr. Edwin led the camp and examined the patients.
November 28th
Kunnamkulam Town honours IMA KUNNAMKULAM.
IMA KUNNAMKULAM was honoured by KUNNAMKULAM MUNICIPAL COUNCIL at the council hall of Kunnamkulam. In a simple function’s presided over by Municipal Chairperson Mrs. Seetha Raveendran and attended by all the council members, Dr. C. P. Ravunnikutty was honoured with a Ponnada and a Memento for having received the award for the best president of an IMA local branch in the state. Dr.Geetha Devi and Dr. Padmasini received the Mementos for WIMA and Dr. Shaji received the memento for the branch.
It was a coincidence that Dr. Ravunnikutty and Dr. Geeta Devi celebrated their wedding anniversary at the same venue. Best wishes were offered to them.
November 29th
3rd CME and General Body meeting
The 3rd CME and GBM of IMA Kunnamkulam was held on 29th November at IMA House Kanippayyur. The meeting was called to order at 8.15pm by president Dr. Joshy Thomas after being collared by the secretary Dr. Shameer C Sulaiman. After a silent prayer, flag salutation and monthly activity report by the secretary, the President welcomed all members to the meeting A special welcome note was given to guest speaker Dr C.J Varghese, Head, minimal access surgery, GEM Hospital and Research Centre, Thrissur. Dr. Sundaresh Kumar introduced the guest speaker and Dr. Varghese gave an excellent talk on Surgery for Obesity and Diabetes which was well discussed and appreciated. Dr Ashok Varma presented a memento to the guest speaker.
Later president detailed about the function in which IMA kunnamkulam was honoured by Kunnamkulam Municipal Council at the Council Hall of Kunnamkulam. Dr. Ravunnikutty, Dr. Shaji and Dr. Geetha Devi and Dr. Padmasini were honoured. IAP best branch award was won by thrissur branch and secretary Dr. Mukesh and Rajagopal. President congratulated both of them.
IMA Kerala State selected IMA Kunnamkulam branch as one among branches from thrissur district for UNICEF programme , planning to conduct health awareness classes in schools. Initial meeting was held on 27th November at Kochi. Dr. Mukesh and Dr. Rajagopal attended the meeting.
Then president announced that Dr Jacob Roy has been selected for the life time achievement award from Mahathma Gandhi university .He congratulated him.
Later president announced the wedding anniversary of ipp Dr. C P Ravunnikutty and ips of wima Dr, Geeth Devi. Cake cutting was done and best wishes offered to them.

Meeting was adjourned by the president after national anthem at 10 pm. 42 members attended the meeting.
